Quick Skincare Pick Me Ups For Busy Routines
Even as someone working from home, I spend even less time on beauty rituals than I did before. I noticed my skin started to suffer for it and went all beauty detective looking for effective quick skincare pick me ups. These are the products that make my skin look good, feel fresh and actually make a difference. I know that even if I just continue to hold down the basics of cleansing and moisturising, I can vamp things up with one of these gems to give my skin the boost it longs for.
QUICK WAYS TO HYDRATE YOUR SKIN
Keeping your skin nourished and hydrated is important but it doesn’t require an intense beauty routine with minutes sat in front a mirror slathering on creams. Carving out time to relax and indulge a little is a good thing. I recommend it but it may not be something (on the pampering beauty front) that you can afford every day. And that’s okay. I know for me, sometimes by the time I wrap up work at 7 or 8pm, food and sleep are the only things I really care about.
B. Skincare Hyaluronic Acid Facial Spritz :: An affordable alternative to those beautifully scented spa-like face mists but it still does the job. It’s a fine, refreshing mist that wakes up tired skin, hydrates and works as a great on the go pep up. I also mentioned it in my ways to prep your makeup base post because it works well for that “barrier” phase, keeping makeup fresh and dewy.
I use this liberally throughout the day to keep my skin in check. I’d recommend this for dry or dehydrated skin types of all ages. It’s also usually on some offer in Superdrug so worth checking out.
Now before you tell me that sheet mask are just for pamper sessions, hear me out. A good sheet mask won’t slip off your face whilst you’re sitting up. I enjoy smoothing one on in the mornings whilst I begin work for the day. After about 30 minutes, they’ll start to dry out so I remove it, pat the excess essence into my skin and leave it to sink in. My skin always feels incredibly plump and juicy after this and I can leave all the hardwork to the mask with no need for a sink.
Alternatively, overnight masks bring a whole new meaning to beauty sleep. Whilst you clock your 5-8 hours, the mask does its magic. I’ve been enjoying Superdrug’s B.Skincare Radiant Overnight Mask. They say this is for people in their 30s and 40s but I’d say it’s for anyone who needs that extra hydration boost. The formulation reminds me of The Body Shop’s Bouncy Sleeping Mask. It’s like a jelly/putty texture that moves back to its original form after you scoop some out. I like to rub it between my palms a little first to make it easier to apply.
It smoothes onto the skin nicely and doesn’t feel sticky or greasy or leave any residue on your pillow. It contains niacinamide (love this for plumping and nourishing skin) and pathenol (a form of Vitamin B5). The mask aims to replenish your skin’s barrier and give you that radiance that comes from bouncy, healthy and nourished skin.
It’s not thick and buttery like the Nude Skincare Overnight Renewal Mask but in a way I prefer this. It’s great for dehydrated skin, you can use it multiple times a week as it’s not heavy and I’ve not had any instances of it clogging my pores. Plus, it’s a lot more affordable and actually works. I need to compare it to a sleeping pack so keep an eye out for that.
EFFECTIVE EXFOLIATION WITHOUT THE HASSLE
Exfoliating is not a step to be neglected. I’m no longer a huge fan of taking the time to manually exfoliate with some sort of grain. It requires a light hand and patience so you’re not scratching your skin. Sometimes, sitting for 20-30 minutes with a glycolic mask or other isn’t on the cards either. I discovered some quick fixes which have become some of my favourite treatment products in my skincare arsenal.
Make P:rem Wonderful Me In Shower Face Pack :: This was revolutionary to me. A face mask designed to be used in the shower. You apply the thick but light gel formulation to damp, freshly cleansed skin and let it sit for the entirety of your bath or shower. The steam from the shower opens the pores and helps the ingredients of this mask to penetrate better. In fact, sometimes it feels like a gel moisturiser that you apply and will disappear into the skin.
- It contains Hylauronic acid and ceramides to hydrated and plump the skin.
- Blueberry, strawberry and blackberry extracts which brighten and chemically exfoliate the skin.
I can wash my hair with this mask on and then easily wash it off just before I hop out the shower. It’s definitely a quick fix that I’ll use twice a week at least. Whenever my skin is looking dull or if I’m heading out in the evening. It smooths the texture of my skin and makes my complexion look clearer and brighter. Although it’s not a detoxing mask, I do find it helps keep blemishes at bay.
Another favourite (and has been for much of 2016) is the NEOGEN Wine Gauze Peeling pads. That, link will take you to an in-depth review but they’re basically gauze textured pads soaked in a chemical exfoliation formula. They are so effective and brightening and refining the texture of my skin and do not make it red. I love using it over my t-zone as well because it helps remove blackheads too. A quick step that you can slide into your night time skincare routine without much effort but it reaps incredible results.
